Reading Lists

Recommended readings arranged or searchable by topic:

This project is an effort resulting from a summer reading group comprised of members of the Graduate Student Coalition for Gender Diversity in Philosophy (formerly known as the Climate Coalition) at Georgetown University. The aim is to offer suggestions of readings by diverse philosophers to anyone who might find them helpful in teaching.

Sponsored by the School of Philosophy, Religion, and History of Science at the University of Leeds, the Diversity Reading List is a searchable database of diverse philosophical readings, written by authors from under-represented groups.

鈥淭he Women鈥檚 Works provides a list of papers, books or chapters that could be used in undergraduate teaching, so that if an instructor wants to include more work by women in a syllabus, it is easier to do so.鈥

Syllabi

Some of these syllabi are completely devoted to an underrepresented area of philosophy, while others contain one or more units on such areas.

A compilation of philosophical texts on a variety of topics, written by diverse practitioners, and appropriate for undergraduate courses. Tried and tested by the Diversifying Syllabi Summer Reading Group at Georgetown University.

The APA CSW is gathering syllabi from philosophy courses that have a substantial focus on diversity issues (such as African American Philosophy, American Indian Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Disability, Philosophy & Multiculturalism, LGBT Philosophy, etc.).
