A Queen鈥檚 Exclusive
The Juris Doctor/Master of Industrial Relations (JD/MIR) is a three-and-a-half-year combined degree program in partnership with . The JD/MIR was established in response to strong demand from the law profession for graduates with expertise in employment and labour law. Now a Queen鈥檚 exclusive, the JD/MIR is the only dual degree of its kind in Canada, merging graduate training in human resources management, employment and labour policy with a professional degree in law.
A limited number of students may be admitted to this combined program. Applications must be made for the JD program admission through the and for admission to the MIR degree program through the School of Graduate Studies.

Current Queen's Law JD students can apply for transfer into the JD/MIR program after their first or second year of studies. Students will be selected based on their performance in undergraduate studies and their performance to date in the JD program.
You would apply for the MIR program by filling out an online application with the School of Graduate Studies. You would be required to submit your undergraduate transcripts, along with 2 references. We would be able to obtain your Queen鈥檚 Law transcript directly from SOLUS.

Elective substitutes for the JD/MIR program are subject to the approval of program coordinators from both units and can be either JD or MIR courses.
I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in the dual JD/MIR program at Queen鈥檚 University. The interdisciplinary program (the only of its kind in Canada) provides students the opportunity to earn their Master of Industrial Relations degree and their Juris Doctor degree simultaneously. For me, the program meant the opportunity to study law while continuing to explore my academic passion: employment relations.
