Queen鈥檚 Master鈥檚 student Julianna Petrenko and Queen鈥檚 professor Dr. Fran Bonier are available to speak to media about a recent study just published in the journal . In the paper, lead author Petrenko examined whether bird species that do well in cities, like the Blue Jay, European Starling, and House Finch are protected from the widespread population declines we see in so many species around the world. Petrenko and co-authors looked at close to 400 species of birds between 1970 and 2019 and found surprisingly, urban tolerance does not protect against population declines.
