Thousands of students looking towards their post-university futures attended Tuesday’s Queen’s Career Fair. The fair was the university’s biggest ever with over 100 recruiter booths, including employers and educational institutions.

Held in the gym of the ARC, the Career Fair amalgamated two past events — the Career Fair and the Further Education Expo — to provide students with greater access to information in one place. 

“I came to learn what opportunities were available to me and I learnt about a number of things I hadn’t considered before,” says Ryan Leonhard, MA ’14. “It looks like there are a lot of educational and international opportunities.”

The fair included three primary sections: the Employer Showcase that had organizations from a variety of sectors interested in hiring Queen’s students, the Educator Expo had representatives from more than 70 education programs, and the Skills Development Zone which provided opportunities for students to increase their career skills. This section included a drop-in career advising booth, a resume review clinic, a professional headshot photo booth (sponsored by Alumni Relations), and more.

Robert Morrissey, a Project Lead with consulting firm Stroud International, says it was his company’s third year coming to recruit at Queen’s.

“We have a number of Queen’s alumni working in our offices around the world who we’ve been very impressed with. Queen’s has strong academic programs, so we’re happy to return each year.”

Queen’s graduates perform very well in the job market, with a recent Ontario government survey showing the employment rate six months after graduation is 90.12 per cent, climbing to 93.53 per cent two years after graduation.
