Over the next week, campus will be bustling with students arriving for the 2024-25 academic year. Most first-year students will move into residence on Saturday, Aug. 31. Many upper-year and graduate students will be returning to Kingston and the surrounding neighbourhoods in the coming days, ahead of the start of fall term classes on Tuesday, Sept. 3. City Hall will be illuminated in tri-colour Friday evening to welcome both new and returning students. 

“Move-in marks the start of an exciting chapter for new students, their families, and the entire Queen’s community,” says Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Ann Tierney. “Over the next week students will take part in programming that will build lasting connections, prepare them for their academic studies, and support them with the transition to life on campus.”

First-year students and their families are asked to pause only briefly for unloading when they pull up in front of their residence building, and then immediately park their vehicles in designated areas, before returning to take their things to their rooms with the help of student volunteers.

Adding to the residences on campus is the renovated John Deutsch University Centre. First-year students will move into 90 newly-refurbished residence rooms.

More than 1,000 volunteers will be helping to welcome the Class of 2028 on their first day at �������ϲʿ����ֳ�.

Traffic advisories and road closures

Housing and Ancillary Services has worked closely with the City of Kingston, Kingston Police and traffic management specialists to help mitigate the impacts of increased traffic around campus through temporary road closures, traffic pattern changes, parking restrictions, and on-site staffing.
