With Chancellor Murray Sinclair coming to the conclusion of his term, Queen’s University is beginning its search for the next Queen’s Chancellor. The position serves as the ceremonial head and highest officer of the university, and those in the role represent its values, and have a deep commitment to its success.

Chancellors have several responsibilities, including serving on the University Council and Board of Trustees, participating in key committees, presiding over convocation ceremonies, conferring degrees, engaging with alumni, hosting dignitaries, and more.

The advisory committee will make a recommendation to the Principal Patrick Deane, who chairs the group, about who they believe should fill the role once Chancellor Sinclair’s term concludes on June 30, 2024. Principal Deane will present this recommendation to the University Council, the governance body responsible for the final decision.

A webpage has been created with the advisory committee membership and terms of reference. The committee’s work will take place over the coming weeks, and their recommendation will be presented to the University Council in May 2024, with the new candidate announced publicly thereafter.
