EDII Fund

Four Directions ceremonial blanket

The Faculty of Arts and Science Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigenization (EDI-I) Fund provides support to members of FAS for activities related to the Faculty’s strategic priorities around EDI-I.

Who can request funding?
Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, adjuncts, and staff in the Faculty of Arts and Science are all eligible to requesting support through the Fund. The Fund can also be used by community groups or other faculties within Queen’s as long as there is a sponsoring FAS member.

How much can I request?
The maximum amount for an award is $2,500.00.

How often can I request funding?
Members may seek support from this Fund once a year.

When is the application deadline?
The application deadlines are October 1, February 1, and June 1 throughout the year.

What types of projects/activities can be funded?
The Fund provides support to initiatives that bring an EDI-I focus to our community with preference given to projects that are situated locally. Types of projects previously funded include:

  • Camping with Queen’s Outdoor Field Experience Initiative (QOFEI) and gear purchases
  • Diversifying the Curriculum of GPHY-101 (F22 & W23) and GPHY-240 (W23)
  • International Symposium on Microbial Ecology
  • Queen’s Genetically Engineered Machine (QGEM) 2022 Research Initiative & International Genetic Engineered Machine (iGEM) Jamboree
  • 2nd Summer Session on Gender/Sex/uality In/Justice Project

Funds can be used to organize and/or attend conferences or workshops, as well as to support for those who seek to invite visitors and organize events to enhance teaching, learning, and research environments, with respect to EDI-I. While many projects align with typical academic actives, we strongly encourage members to apply in support of non-traditional projects with a community engagement focus.

Priority for this funding is given to projects and events that connect to enhancing knowledge and awareness of various aspects of I-EDIAA, and connect to recommendations in the Principal’s Implementation Committee on Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion Report (April, 2017) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force, Extending the Rafters, Report (March, 2017).
